According to the National Center for Education Statistics, there were approximately 15 million students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 in public schools during the fall of 2016. Based upon the most recent data available from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 82% of high school students graduate. Of those, approximately 69% attend a four year college or university. This proportion of students opting to attend college has continued to decrease for each of the last four years. Of those that attend a college or university, approximately 66% will graduate within 6 years. These numbers illuminate that college is not a viable option for all high school students. These numbers also illustrate the need for reaching students and presenting them with viable career alternatives beyond those careers that require professional degree programs..
